Scrolling through Instagram a couple of nights ago I was so happy to read Nikki from Styling You (she is FABULOUS!) discussing five things she has discovered about herself. You can read Nikki’s post, share your own discoveries and be in the running for an awesome giveaway by visiting the Styling You website here.
This of course prompted me to have a think about my own journey thus far and reflect on how far I’ve come, where I’m headed and what I’ve discovered! Here is my list of the 5 things I now know to be true!
1. I AM STRONG – Losing my mum when I was 23 years old and four months into married life was H.A.R.D. I had no idea how I was going to cope without her and navigate my way to becoming a wife and eventually a mum! But sixteen years and two kids later here I am. It’s still hard, I’m still here and I’m doing alright. I’m proud of my achievements and I know she would have been too. My wish is that she could have been here to share the highs and lows with me.
2. MY BEST IS ENOUGH – Whether it be my role as a wife, mother, sister or friend. Whatever I do, I try to do wholeheartedly and unconditionally. I love the Maya Angelou quote,
” When you know better, you do better ”
It sums up perfectly that although you might not always know if your making the right decision at the time. There is always a lesson to be learnt and a chance to do better next time around. We all make mistakes but it’s what we learn from those mistakes that moves us forward.
3.I’M OK WITH WHO I AM – Loving, moody, sarcastic, compassionate, kind, temperamental and an introvert. All these word’s describe me! I am many things to many people. I’m not perfect and that’s okay. There will always be people trying to bring me down, haters gonna hate! I refuse to listen anymore. My worth is not determined by what other people think of me. I make the rules for me!.
4. I ENJOY MY OWN COMPANY – This is not really a revelation for me! I’ve always enjoyed spending time on my own, collecting my thoughts. I crave alone time or a place where I can just BE. It recharges my batteries and puts me in the right head space to tackle whatever comes my way next.
5. I’M TAKING CHANCES – I’m the eternal procrastinator! There are so many things I’m going to do ‘one day’. But from now on I’ve decided that day is now. So I’m going to do the things I’ve only ever thought about and hope for the best. If it works out great, if not at least I’ll know I gave it a red hot go. I’m eight months away from the big 4-0 and I have a new found confidence in myself and my abilities! Watch this space!
Here’s another quote to finish, I absolutely love this. My kids have this print framed and hanging in their rooms.
